Bob Dylan And Bruce Springsteen: Greetings From Rome

Good things happen in Rome, apparently.

Last night’s Bob Dylan show saw the legendary songwriter switch up his usual set list in a drastic way. Instead of all the tired horses he’s been trotting out for the last eighteen shows, Dylan’s song selection included only two standbys: “Blind Willie McTell” and “All Along The Watchtower.” The rest were newbies. See below:

1. Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat
2. Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right
3. Watching The River Flow
4. Blind Willie McTell
5. Honest With Me
6. Make You Feel My Love
7. Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum
8. Queen Jane Approximately
9. Highway 61 Revisited

(Intermission)

10. Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues
11. Ain’t Talkin’
12. Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine)
13. Boots Of Spanish Leather
14. The Levee’s Gonna Break
15. Every Grain Of Sand
16. Like A Rolling Stone
(encore)
17. All Along The Watchtower

Interestingly, Tempest’s “Early Roman Kings” was nowhere to be found. Maledetto!

In other news, Bruce Springsteen just released an official live video from his July 11 stop there —  the one-and-only tour appearance of the 12-minute-long E Street Shuffle epic “New York Serenade.” Springsteen rewarded a loyal fan toting a giant sign with him across Europe by hiring an orchestra and getting down to it.  As he explains in a Facebook update:

Finally, after being pursued from city to city (to city to city) by a man with a sign and a one track mind we hooked it up with the Roma Sinfonietta in Rome for the tour’s only performance of “NYC Serenade.” Best, Bruce

Thanks to Harold Lepidus for the Dylan update.
