Bruce Springsteen’s Favorite Rolling Stones Song
Well, baby used to stay out all night long
She made me cry, she done me wrong
She hurt my eyes open, that’s no lie
Tables turn and now her turn to cry
While chatting about songs he considered “desert island” essentials, Springsteen threw some praise toward the Rolling Stones. He recounted how he used to try and emulate Brian Jones’ look.
“I would use my mother’s hair clips to pin my hair down, then I would sleep on it exactly right, because I had Italian curly hair so I would pin it down until it was as straight as Brian Jones,’” Springsteen once said.
Because I used to love her, but it’s all over now
Because I used to love her, but it’s all over now
While there are many stellar Stones songs to choose from, Springsteen was partial to one called “It’s All Over Now.” In particular, he found Keith Richard’s guitar solo intoxicating. He tried his hand at recreating Richard’s incomparable playing.
“‘It’s All Over Now’ held a special place for me because when I got thrown out of my first band, I went home that night and I was pissed off, so I said ‘All right I’m going to be a lead guitar player,’” he continued. “And for some reason that solo felt like something I might be able to manage. I put the record on and I sat there all night until I was able to scrape up some relatively decent version of Keith’s solo. It was a very important record for me as it was the first solo I ever learned.”
Well, she used to run around with every man in town
She spent all my money, playing her high class game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
Tables turn and now her turn to cry
