Ella Langley Talks “Letting God Take the Wheel” and Ronnie Milsap and George Jones Inspiring Her Upcoming Sophmore Album

Despite owning country music in 2024 with Riley Green for their song “You Look Like You Love Me,” Ella Langley is not slowing down. Currently, Langley is working on her sophomore album and is excited to show off a new side of herself. It seems a break is not in the cards for Langley, as she has already completed much of the groundwork for the untitled project.

That being so, Langley appeared on the God’s Country podcast and opened up about the album and the process that has entailed thus far in its creation. Per Langley’s comments, it seems like it will sit in a stark juxtaposition with her past album, Hungover. Though, we will let her tell you that herself.

Ella Langley Talks About Her Album & Her Inspirations

In the podcast, Langley divulged that a lot of the legwork for the album has already been completed. And consequently, she told the hosts, “I’m really excited about where I’m going next” and “It’s really organically fallen out.” “I’m really just letting God take the wheel, honestly,” she added in regards to the album’s creation.

In addition to her religious beliefs, Langley’s roots will take over the album’s subject matter and tone. “With this next record, I kinda wanna show that side a little more of me. The Alabama, who is Ella Langley” and “Not just the songwriter or the artist, but the human being,” stated Langley.

Given that she is trying to humanize herself after her star-studded Summer, Langley believes her honesty will appeal to listeners. Per the album’s supposed authenticity, Langley said, “I think there is a level of honesty in my songs that not everyone has, and I think that may be what’s gonna set it apart a little bit, you know?” “This next record, I’m so excited about it,” Langley concluded.

Religion, roots, and authenticity—It sounds like some of the themes embedded in the country music of the ’70s and ’80s. Hence, Langley’s largest inspirations for this album are artists from that very decade. She added, “I’ve made this whole playlist I listen to every day of reference tracks just to kinda get me in the headspace of where I want it” and “I’ve been listening to a lot of Ronnie Milsap, if that gives you any indication, a lot of George Jones”
