Neo-Folk shaman and intrepid songwriter Iron and Wine will release his latest album, Around the Well, on Sub Pop May 19. The double disc features songs both out-of-print and never-released, and includes covers of the Flaming Lip’s “Waitin’ For a Superman,” “New Order’s” Love Vigilantes, and Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights.” The first half of the record centers around intimate home recordings, while the second is fleshed out with friends and fellow musicians.

Iron and Wine, aka Sam Beam, is currently enjoying the attention that comes from having a track on the Twilight soundtrack (“Flightless Bird, American Mouth”).

Beam plans to release an album of new material in 2010. In the meantime, he’ll tour five cities in ten days, in which he’ll turn the set list over to the fans, playing all requests.

Fans can vote on the set lists on Ironandwine.com, and can download performances of most shows at Playedlastnight.com. Tickets go on sale February 20.

Whoever shouts out “Free Bird” will be asked to leave the building.
