Separately, Kid Rock and James Hetfield have been known to participate in daring endeavors. Now, together, they do the same, just seemingly at a far higher level. Hetfield has nearly been lit on fire, and has lived the rock star lifestyle to the fullest extent. Kid Rock has done the same, though I don’t believe he’s been nearly lit on fire. With all that in mind, when these two get together, extreme things transpire.

The two have done extreme things together in the past. As a matter of fact, when wakeboarding together, Hetfield injured his back, according to Kid Rock. When James Hetfield suffered two broken ribs while riding motorcycles at Rock’s house, Kid Rock wasn’t even there. Nevertheless, Hetfield got two broken ribs after running a motorcycle into a fence on Kid Rock’s property.
Kid Rock Never Lets Hetfield Live It Down
After the incident, Kid Rock recalled the hilarity of Hetfield’s injury and how it happened.
“We went wakeboarding and he f—d his back up,” Kid Rock said, per Louder Sound. “He came over to my house to ride motorcycles, I wasn’t even there. He hit a fence and knocked himself out. So, for him, I reckon I’m the bad karma.”
While Kid Rock is, of course, very open to sharing this story for comedic purposes, Hetfield is seemingly, yet unseriously, not. When asked about the motorcycle accident in an interview with 101 WRIF, Hetfield grimaced and simply said, “Never happened.”
Later on in that same interview, Hetfield acknowledged the accident. Furthermore, and to Rock’s point, James Hetfield jokingly articulated that he needs to stay away from Kid Rock, because when he hangs out with him, he gets hurt.
Despite this injury, Hetfield pulled himself up by the bootstraps and continued to perform that summer.
“It was the beginning of a summer tour,” he told the publication. “Yeah. I sung the whole tour with two broken ribs, and I wouldn’t recommend that, but I wouldn’t recommend catching on fire or a lot of other things too.”
It is unclear how long James Hetfield suffered from his injury. Though given that he performed, it couldn’t have been that bad, or maybe Hetfield is just a certified hard-headed pain junky with one heck of a tolerance. Regardless, nothing, not even a motorcycle crash, will keep Metallica’s frontman away from his job.
