2010 has been a good year so far for Lauryn Hill and Amy Winehouse sightings.
After many years in exile, former Fugee Lauryn Hill reemerged to perform her hits live on the Rock The Bells Tour, while Winehouse, whose struggles to stay sober have overshadowed her musical endeavors, came out of hiding to perform “Valerie” with producer Mark Ronson in a London club last month.
Step two in their career rehabilitations is now underway: the new recordings. Hill has teamed with Isley Brothers’ Ron Isley for a soulful cover of The Carpenters chestnut “(They Long To Be) Close To You.” The track will appear on Isley’s upcoming duets album, Mr. I, due November 30.

Winehouse, on the other hand, will appear on a Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, a Quincy Jones tribute album due in November. The British belter will tackle “It’s My Party,” one of Jones’ first production hits, originally recorded by singer Lesley Gore in 1963.
Step three would be the brand new album. We’ll have to keep waiting on that one.
