Earlier this year, Dolly Parton teamed up with Mötley Crüe for a new rendition of the band’s 1985 fan favorite “Home Sweet Home.” This month, the song debuted at No. 1 on the Mediabase Classic Rock Songs chart. It was another chart-topper for Parton and the first time the incredibly popular song reached the top spot. Recently, Nikki Sixx revealed that he chose to reach out to the country superstar after playing bass on her 2023 album, Rockstar.

Nikki Sixx Shares Dolly Parton’s Thoughts on the Mötley Crüe Classic
Nikki Sixx played bass on Dolly Parton’s 2023 album, Rock Star. As a result, when Mötley Crüe decided to record a new version of “Home Sweet Home,” her name instantly came to Sixx’s mind. He contacted her to invite her to collaborate with the band on the song and learned that it was one of her late husband, Carl Dean’s, favorite songs. So, she was quick to agree to sing on the new track.
“Dolly looked at me and said, ‘I really love these lyrics,’” Sixx recalled. “And she goes, in her very sweet Southern accent, ‘When you’re young, you want to get as far away from home as possible. You want to chase those dreams. You want to chase whatever you want to do. Then, once you get there, it’s the journey getting back to your roots.’ I was like, ‘No one’s ever explained my lyrics to me that clear.’ That just touched me on so many levels,” Sixx added.
Later in the interview, Sixx recalled how he felt while working with Parton in the studio. “The kid in me is going, ‘What the f**k is happening? I’m hanging out with Dolly Parton.’ She makes it so easy, that’s why I think so many people adore her, you know, she makes you feel like the biggest star in the room.”
