Jack White tells Rolling Stone that the followup to this year’s Dead Weather debut is in the planning stages. The band will hit the studio after wrapping up their Australian tour in March. White mentions they have an army of new songs that will all be debuted live. Of the album, he says: “we can’t tell you that much about it except that it’s gonna be really expansive, and I use that word loosely in a scientific sense, meaning that I’m just using it to distract you.”
Death Cab for Cutie, who are currently caught up in Twilight mania, gave a nod to Wilco in a recent interview with MTV News. The band say they’ll drop a new album in 2010. Says Chris Walla: “I think probably [we’ll be] continuing with the ‘everybody live in a room’ theme, but sort of — you know what I really dug? The last Wilco record,” he said. “I think they took the thing that had happened on the previous record, where it was really live, and took the parts of that that worked really well but pulled back from the ‘really live’ a little bit to sort of concentrate and overdub in a couple of different spots, to concentrate on it and produce it and get it a little more polish-y.”
Bruce Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau tells Rolling Stone what Springsteen fans can expect in the near future. First, the Boss will bring his two-year tour to a close this Sunday in Buffalo by performing his debut album, Greetings From Asbury Park, in full. In 2010, we’ll see a box set devoted to Darkness On The Edge Of Town, much like 2005’s Born To Run reissue. Look for live footage, a documentary, and a remastered version of the classic 1978 album. There’s also a Working On A Dream DVD in the works, which will capture what Springsteen has repeatedly called the E Street Band’s finest tour to date.
The Decemberists have turned their latest prog-rock epic The Hazards of Love into a full-length animated video. Dubbed Here Come the Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized, it features the artwork of filmmakers Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka and Santa Maria. Here Comes The Waves will be available December 1, exclusively through iTunes.
Ringo Starr has recruited Paul McCartney to duet on his upcoming solo album, due January 12 via Hip-O/UMe. The two Beatles share vocals on the new song “Y Not.” Also lending to their pipes to the album are Joss Stone, Ben Harper, and Richard Marx. In addition, several artists pitch in with the songwriting, including The Eagles’ Joe Walsh, Heartbreaker Benmont Tench, Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, Glen Ballard and Van Dyke Parks.
It’s time to start thinking about next year’s Bonnaroo.Tickets for the Manchester, Tennessee event will go on sale November 27th. The festival will run from June 10 to June 13. The lineup will be announced sometime before late February. We bet it will be good.
