The ever-busy boys of Radiohead have recently contributed a song for the upcoming film Choke. The film is based on a book by renowned American author Chuck Palahniuk, who revealed the information of his collaboration with the Oxford band to the BBC.

Palahniuk hand-picked Radiohead to score his new film for several reasons, but chose them primarily due to the influence that their 1992 hit “Creep” had on the writing of the novelChoke. “Clark Gregg [Choke director]… knew that I’d writtenChoke while listening to [Radiohead’s 1993 debut album] Pablo Honey, with “Creep” over and over and over,” Palahniuk explained. “So Clark got Radiohead to contribute a song.”

UPDATE: It appears Radiohead will only contribute a song to the film, “Reckoner.” Not score the entire film or write a new song. The quotes from Palahniuk were taken for BBC 6 Music Report. More information coming soon…

Upon speaking with Gregg and Palahniuk, Radiohead initially planned on composing a song to be played during the ending credits of the film. After seeing Choke in its entirety, however, Thom and company were inspired to author the film’s soundtrack.

The author was thrilled by Radiohead’s enthusiasm for his project, describing his reaction, “I quit believing in my own life at this point! My life is just too incredible to be believable anymore. It’s a living dream.”

Palahniuk’s previous novel-to-screen translations have fared well in the past, producing such hits as 1999’s Fight Club starring Brad Pitt. Choke, with Gregg at the wheel, is set to star Anjelica Huston and Sam Rockwell as the primary characters. Palahniuk is also working on a new novel, tentatively titled Pygmy, which he hopes to release in spring 2009.

Choke is set to be released in November, but no official date for either the film or the soundtrack has been announced.
