Can a gamer-changer get its game changed? Radiohead announced Monday that they are in the final stages of work on a new LP, potentially out by the end of the year. “I truly believe we can shift massively on this [next] record,” guitarist Ed O’Brien told Rolling Stone.

The announcement comes nearly a year after frontman Thom Yorke told The Believer magazine that the band was finished with long-form albums for a while, in favor of releasing singles, EPs and other assorted projects.

“It’ll kill us…I mean, obviously, there’s still something great about the album. It’s just, for us, right now, we need to get away from it a bit,” Yorke told the magazine.

In any case, an LP is on its way, begging the question, how will it be released? In 2007, the decision to allow fans to name their price for In Rainbows, was widely hailed as a move that redefined common practices between artists, fans and record labels.

So far the band has yet to divulge a name or track listing, let alone a marketing strategy. Though O’Brien said that he expects Radiohead to have a finished product within the next few weeks.

“We’re on a big move here,” O’Brien said, “We’re definitely on a journey.”
