The Songwriting & Performance Institute celebrates its grand opening in Reno, Nevada, this month.
The Institute, which is staffed by area professionals, offers a training center for those who are considering careers in the music industry. There are several classes offered, along with access to a high tech recording studio.
New students are assessed on their vocal skills and ability to play an instrument before being placed in the appropriate program. Vocal skills aren’t a requirement, however.
“If they do poorly in assessment, they’re labeled a beginner. But in the songwriting world, there are so many things you can do. Songwriting isn’t exclusive to people who can sing,” explains Institute CEO Chip Evans in the Reno Gazette-Journal.
