Glen Campbell was a clean-cut country musician. Alice Cooper is an eccentric heavy metal and glam rock singer. Musically speaking, the two have nothing in common. However, that did not stop them from becoming great and close friends. Both of these individuals are respected in their own right. Campbell was a master guitar player and charismatic figure, whereas Cooper was and still is a polarizing frontman whose disposition is off-putting yet alluring. Are they different? Yes, but opposites typically attract.

Glen Campbell and Alice Cooper were at the top of the music industry during the 1970s. So, they walked, talked, and did their things in the same circles. Consequently, they struck up quite a friendship after they reportedly attended church together in Phoenix, Arizona. Furthermore, they were also golf partners.
All that being so, when Glen Campbell tragically passed away in 2017, the general music community mourned his loss, especially Alice Cooper. Following his passing, Cooper sat down with Fox 10 to commemorate his friend, fellow churchgoer, and golf partner, Glen Campbell.
Alice Cooper Could Not Think More Highly of Glen Campbell
“You know, if Glen called up and was like, ‘Alice, let’s play tomorrow?’” Cooper stated in his interview with Fox 10. “I’d go, ‘absolutely, let’s go.’ I loved being with Glen.”
Regarding Campbell’s charisma and lovable personality, Cooper went on to divulge that he could hang out and get along with anyone. To Campbell, it didn’t matter who you were, what you did, or what kind of music you played; if there was good conversation involved, that was all that was needed.
“He could go hang out with the Rat Pack, or he could hang out with Donnie and Marie [Osmond], or he could hang out with the Beatles or anybody,” said Cooper. “[Campbell] was in that middle, he was that sort of all-purpose, good-looking kid that could do anything. He was the golden boy, and yet, him and I were like ‘this.’”
Thanks to Campbell’s ability to connect with just about anyone and his guitar talents, his likeness and relevance expanded far beyond just the country music scene. Alice Cooper attested to the fact by shining a light on “the respect he [Campbell] had in the rock ‘n’ roll world.”
“People like Eddie Van Halen one time said, ‘Could you get me a guitar lesson with Glen?’” Cooper continued. “And most rockers would go, ‘What?’ That’s the kind of guitar player he was.”
Per Alice Cooper’s comments, it seems he believed Glen Campbell helped hang the moon. He’s not alone in thinking that, either, as Glen Campbell is one of the most celebrated artists of all time.
