The country music world lost a legend when Toby Keith passed away one year ago today (February 5). He is deeply missed by his legions of fans as well as his fellow artists and the up-and-comers he helped to inspire. However, we sometimes get so caught up in who he was to the world that we forget that he was much more than an exemplary singer, songwriter, and musician. He was also a husband, father, grandfather, and much more.

Earlier today, the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer’s daughter Krystal Keith took to social media to mark the first anniversary of her father’s passing with a lengthy and heartfelt post. She also shared a collection of family photos showing how close they were as a family unit.
Krystal Keith Remembers Toby Keith
“It feels like yesterday we said goodbye and yet it somehow has also been the longest year without him,” Krystal Keith began. “I can’t help but find gratitude in all the time we had because we did all of life as a family unit. It’s hard to find a candid picture where he doesn’t have one of our babies in his arms. He was their favorite, and they were his,” she added.
She went on to say that Toby Keith’s grandkids miss him every day, much like the rest of the family. However, they all have faith that they will be reunited in the afterlife. Additionally, the family finds solace in knowing that their father and grandfather is watching over them today. “Until then, he will watch over us and walk beside us,” she wrote.
Keith added that her father loved sunsets. As a result, for her, every sunset is a reminder that her dad would want her to “live our best life and do good in the world,” she explained. So, the Keith family plans to do exactly that. They’ll continue to live life to the fullest and put as much good into the world as they can to honor the legacy Toby left behind.
To say that Keith left behind a legacy worth honoring is an understatement. More than a top-tier artist and songwriter, he was a champion and inspiration to up-and-coming artists, a philanthropist whose foundation assists children with cancer and their families, and so much more.
