Carrie Underwood Reflects on Her American Idol Win

Not long after taking home the big prize at the end of season four of American Idol, Carrie Underwood appeared on The View to talk about her time on the show and her plans for the future. While there, she reflected on the final days of the season.

Underwood said she didn’t think she had the season in the bag until long after she made the top 10. “I really tried to take things week-by-week and just try to get through another week,” she said. “When there were four of us I thought, ‘Okay, I’ve got a one in four shot of winning this thing,’” she added.

The “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer also predicted the future of her career. During her conversation with the hosts of The View, she stated her intention to be a country star. However, she said she may flirt with pop music at some point. “Maybe later on, it’s still country but like Shania Twain kind of stuff that can cross over to pop,” she said when asked if she would avoid making pop music.
