Everybody knows that break ups can inspire the best songs. That statement rings true for J Thomas Hall, one of the songwriters in southern rock band Ponderosa, and his debut 7 inch, “What Heartache’s All About.”

“I wrote this song while sitting in Ponderosa guitarist/producer Kris Sampson’s apartment, which we dubbed The Eagle’s Nest,” says Hall. “At the time, I was going through an extremely long and arduous break up and this song just sort of spilled out. I butted in to Kris’ recording session and asked if we could cut a quick demo, which consequently became the final mix after adding some background vocals from my bandmates Kalen Nash and John Dance.”
