3 Beloved Songs I Find To Be Total Snoozefests (Let Me Explain)

Don’t get me wrong. I know for a fact that the following three tunes are some of the most beloved and famous songs of all time. However, like anyone reading this, I have my own preferences. And as such, I find the following songs to be absolute snoozefests. I don’t outright hate them, but I’m not particularly entertained or excited by them. Let’s take a look at my three picks, but give me a chance to explain myself, please!

1. “Brown-Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison

Van Morrison is a legend. There’s no denying that. He’s one of the most enduring singer/songwriters to come out of Northern Ireland. That being said, I really can’t get into his famous 1967 soft rock hit, “Brown-Eyed Girl”. And there’s a good chance that it doesn’t have anything to do with the composition of the song at all.

Rather, this song has been on classic rock radio station rotations for decades. You can’t go longer than an hour or two without hearing it on such stations. My dislike for this song might stem from it being overplayed to death.

2. “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

This song is an anthem of sorts for people from the state of Alabama. However, I’ve never been to The Heart of Dixie, and I don’t really find anything that Lynyrd Skynyrd has produced to be very compelling. However, Lynyrd Skynyrd never really tried to brand themselves as poets. They’re a southern rock outfit known for their beer-drinkin’, hard-partying country rock tunes. I’m not part of the demographic of listeners that they are trying to impress here.

Though, I do have to take at least one little dig to toss at them for “Sweet Home Alabama”: For a song penned as a diss track of sorts against Neil Young, the resulting tune is a bit boring.

3. “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk

Like many pop songs from the 2010s, “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk (featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers) was played to the point that it was annoying back in 2013. This disco-funk hit makes my list of songs that I find to be total snoozefests because of the melody, in particular. It’s not particularly engaging or musically interesting to me. I’m not alone, either.

There are plenty of disco-funk songs out there that capture my attention like a fish on a hook. But the “hook” in “Get Lucky” doesn’t have much musical payoff to me. Couple that with how overplayed this song was back in the day, and I can’t find much to love about it.
