A band is a funny thing. It’s a group of three, four, five, or more members who get together, often in a dank practice space, and play music. Each is responsible for different parts, from writing the verses to the drum fills to the bass lines. It’s a creative endeavor that can include as much tension as it does release. It’s also a hotbed for love.

Music can be sensual, alluring. So can playing on stage in front of thousands. Sometimes, even social lubricants like alcohol can be involved. Put all this in a pot and mix in youthful, spirited individuals, and you’re bound to have some romance. To wit, there are several examples of artists in bands coming together to date and even get married. We wanted to explore that very phenomenon via three couples of classic rock. Check out this trio of partners who got so hot and heavy they tied the knot. Indeed, these are three pairs of classic rock artists who married each other.
Christine and John McVie
Two members of the iconic band Fleetwood Mac included Christine McVie (nee Perfect), the keyboard player, and singer/songwriter John McVie, who was the bassist for the group. But before they were bandmates, the two met and fell in love and married in 1968 with Peter Green serving as the best man.
The British-born artists were in different groups at the time. Soon, though, John convinced the members of Fleetwood to bring in Christine. Sadly, the couple divorced in 1976, spurred on in part by an affair Christine had with the group’s lighting engineer and John’s constant drinking. What drama! Thankfully, they remained friends.
Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth
The drummer and bass player of Talking Heads, respectively, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth married in 1977, just two years after the band got off the ground. They have been together for 47 years as of this writing. Not only that, but they formed their own group as an offshoot of Talking Heads. That group, Tom Tom Club, can be seen in the Talking Heads iconic concert film Stop Making Sense, performing their hit track “Genius Of Love”. And as a testament to their love, in 2002, Chris and Tina became the first married couple inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Gregg Allman and Cher
The marriage between these two superstars only lasted a handful of years and was marked by turbulence. Gregg and Cher got together after Cher’s divorce from her former husband and singing partner, Sonny Bono. But their marriage only lasted nine days. This was likely due to Gregg’s substance abuse issues. Over the next few years, it was on-again, off-again. But the two did have a son together, Elijah Blue Allman. Allman and Cher eventually split in 1979, ending their marriage permanently. Still, they did collaborate on some songs and performances together, including the 1977 LP, Two The Hard Way.
