4 Garth Brooks Songs That Made Him a Legend Beyond Just Country Music

Garth Brooks was the king of country music for a hot minute in the 1990s and early 2000s. He’s got plenty of hits under his name, but there are a few Garth Brooks songs out there that are considered his very best; and they also made him a star, not only in country music history, but in music as a whole. Let’s look at just a couple of Garth Brooks songs that are absolutely legendary.

1. “Friends In Low Places”

“Friends In Low Places” is one of Garth Brooks’ biggest and most well-known songs, and we have his mom to thank for that. According to legend, Brooks’ mother gave a copy of the song to a local radio station, which they promptly aired. The song became a chart-topping hit for Brooks in 1990, and it’s still a well-loved country tune today.

2. “What She’s Doing Now”

When one thinks of Garth Brooks songs, one doesn’t usually think of the 1992 classic “What She’s Doing Now”. It’s almost a bit of a deep cut.

Still, this song is a great example of what Brooks was capable of. The composition of the track is beautiful, and the recorded version boasts one of Brooks’ very best performances. It was a country singles chart-topper back in the day, so it’s not really that much of a deep cut.

3. “More Than A Memory”

For a few years, Garth Brooks decided to step away from music and touring to raise his kids. However, he did return on several occasions for a few passion projects. The gem “More Than A Memory” can be found on the 2005 CD The Lost Session, part of Brooks’ The Limited Series

This song alone proved that Brooks still had that spark well into the 2000s, and the emotional depth of “More Than A Memory” is on another level.

4. “The Dance”

This is one of the biggest Garth Brooks songs out there, and it was almost never released as a single.

Brooks’ label, Capitol Records, was ready to move on the Brooks’ next album after his debut. However, the reaction from fans to this stunning song convinced them to put out one more single from Brooks’ debut album. It was a smart move. “The Dance” is still an inspiring hit today.
