Easter is right around the corner, and families are already planning their annual springtime gatherings. Some are looking forward to watching the kids hunt eggs. Others can’t wait to dig into the holiday food. However, not everyone is looking forward to getting together with family for one reason or another. If you fit the latter category, you can make some waves with the help of these offensive metal bands.

These bands aren’t objectively offensive, if such a thing exists. In fact, fans of the genre would call some of these groups legendary. However, some of those who aren’t in the know would hear the music or see the merchandise and immediately clutch their pearls.

1. Gwar
Clad in elaborate costumes and steeped in an absolutely wild sci-fi mythology, Gwar has more than earned its place on any list of offensive metal bands. While frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) died in 2014, the alien-inspired metal band has continued touring and recording with new members and the same attitude.
2. Dying Fetus
Formed in 1991, this Maryland-based death metal band’s name was meant to be offensive. The band has seen several lineup changes over the last 34 years. However, one thing has stayed the same since the beginning: the absolute brutality of the music. Vocalist John Gallagher’s guttural vocals are some of the best in the genre, and the technical/brutal death metal onslaught behind him is sure to ruffle feathers.
Diecide
We’ll end this offensive list with a pair of the biggest death metal bands in history. First, the second-best-selling band in the genre’s history: Diecide.
Founded in 1987, the band still holds to the old-school death metal sound. Their lyrics are packed with blasphemy, violence, and aggression. Vocalist/bassist Glen Benton has branded his forehead with an inverted cross on several occasions. Also, the band has received major backlash from conservative and religious groups and has been banned from venues in various countries.
Cannibal Corpse
Cannibal Corpse is the best-selling and best-known band in death metal. While they’ve seen several lineup changes since forming in 1988, the band has retained its core spirit. The band could be compared to the musical embodiment of a 1980s splatter film. Their music, song titles, cover art, and merchandise are gore-soaked, violent, and meant to inspire a visceral reaction.
