Bob Dylan has continually lived in the heads of the masses completely rent-free ever since he stepped foot into the music scene in the ’60s. One could and has written books on why that is, but our elementary interpretation is that he’s just cool. He’s cool, relaxed, seemingly a bit detached, and does whatever he wants on a whim without caring about the public aftermath.

Consequently, Dylan can ask for whatever he wants from any musician, both for the reason previously stated, and given that in some fashion, he has influenced every professional musician currently gracing the biggest stages. Hence, when Dylan asked Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters for a favor, he seemingly got that favor, and Grohl lived out a highly desired dream of his.
The Wish Dave Grohl Granted Bob Dylan
Once upon a time Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters opened for Bob Dylan during his 2008 tour. Though, according to Grohl’s comments, it seems the two never met prior to setting off on the tour. Rather, Grohl and Dylan met after one of their shows in 2008, and Grohl recalled being “terrified” upon first meeting and interacting with him, as he believed he’d upset him.
Grohl told Vh1 Storytellers, “Someone said that Bob wants to see me, and I was like, ‘Oh my God! Did I say something wrong?’ I turn around the corner, and there he is” and “He’s standing there in the dark with a black hoodie, black leather pants and black leather boots standing at the other side of this arena in the dark. He said, ‘How’s it going? Thanks for being on tour.’”
In retrospect, Grohl added, “He was a really nice guy. And as we’re talking, he said, ‘What’s that song you guys got? The one with the lyrics about promising not to stop when I say when?’” “I said, ‘Yeah, ‘Everlong.’” And he says, ‘Man, you gotta show me how to play that, I want to start doing that song.’ At that point, I was just like, ‘You know what I’m done,’” concluded Dave Grohl.
For any musician, this is not only a rare opportunity, but also a rare compliment to receive. A rare compliment to receive given that Bob Dylan has always been very selective with whom he admires and praises. However, if anyone could achieve Bob’s blessing, it of course would be Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters.
