1. “If I Could Make A Living” by Clay Walker
Remember “If I Could Make A Living” by Clay Walker? This song is certainly twangy, but it’s also quite a warm and fuzzy country tune, too. Clay Walker’s vocals are warm and inviting on this 1994 hit, and it makes sense why it charted so high on the Billboard country charts, both in the US and Canada.
“If I Could Make A Living” has a delightfully upbeat melody and very string-focused instrumentation that lends it that classic, twangy, country-western sound that many had abandoned in favor of country-pop around the year this song was released.
2. “Friends In Low Places” by Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks was the king of 90s country, and quite a few of his releases from that decade could make it to this list of twangy country songs. However, I went with “Friends In Low Places” simply because it has become such an essential party song.
The lyrics are fun, the energy is palpable and infectious, and that chorus has to be one of the catchiest in country music history. I dare you not to sing along! It’s not surprising at all that this song charted so well in 1990 and won a few different awards after it was released.
3. “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn
This track is the twangy country song of twangy country songs. No matter your age or even if you particularly like country music, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn is the kind of song that can command a room and get people out of their seats.
Nothing captures the vibe of old-school country dance halls quite like this hit from 1992. In fact, the whole of Brand New Man is perfect party fodder for country music fans.
