Looking for a Rap Name? Try the Wu-Tang Clan Name Generator

In May 2002, the Wu-Tang Clan name generator was launched, allowing fans to discover their Wu-Name with the click of a button. Wu-Tang is for the fans, as they say, and this was a new level of interaction that hadn’t been utilized yet.

If you’re looking for a stage name and want to go in the Wu-Tang direction, simply input your full name. You’ll get a cool new moniker in return. The generated names are aligned with members like Inspectah Deck and Ghostface Killah, as they’re made of a two-word phrase.

For example, my Wu-Name is Irate Pupil. Can’t say I’m thrilled with it, especially when a friend got the name Wicked Demon, which is so much cooler. Still, there’s something charming about having a name that essentially declares, “I am an angry student.”

Wu-Tang Clan Name Generator Has Birthed Countless Names, Including One That’s Very Familiar

The original name generator from 2002 is still up and running, but Wu-Tang Clan built a second one on their website more recently. The new generator is more personalized, asking for your location and email as well. If you don’t want to give that information but still want a Wu-Name, stick with the tried and true original.

The generator is for fun overall, but it has directly led to the success of at least one person. Donald Glover began his musical career as Childish Gambino around 2008 with the release of the mixtape Sick Boi, then continued with the release of Poindexter in 2009.

In 2011, Glover released his debut LP Camp with assistance from composer Ludwig Göransson, who did the music for Community. His continued musical influence was most felt in 2017 when he released “This Is America”, a topical commentary on racism and gun culture in the U.S.

Essentially, Childish Gambino would not exist as we know him without the Wu-Tang Clan name generator. Sure, he’d probably go by something else. But is it possible that everything happens for a reason? The Wu-Tang name generator was launched, Donald Glover found it, and it spat out the single coolest stage name it could come up with. Serendipity.

Glover has since retired the Childish Gambino moniker due to creative logistics with other projects. Still, it remains an important stepping stone in his musical career. It started with Wu-Tang Clan, and ended with Bando Stone & The New World.
