Most musicians are wildly eccentric individuals; it just comes with the territory, and one of those incredibly eccentric musicians is none other than Bob Dylan. Dylan is and always has been respectfully detached from society. In the public eye, no one is truly certain who he is and what he has actually done and has not done. He is an anomaly and a walking big-fish story, and another eccentric musician who seemingly agrees with this notion is David Crosby.

David Crosby was a wild figure in his own right, as his story is one of the most controversial and colorful in rock ‘n’ roll history. That being said, it seems his threshold for eccentric personalities was as high as it could be. However, despite this seemingly high threshold, he still thought Bob Dylan was both “crazy” and “weird”. Though, isn’t that what it takes to become one of the greatest icons of all time? Food for thought…
A Great Musician and a Weird Individual: David Crosby’s Thoughts on Dylan
Dylan and Crosby both came up in the 60s, but in different scenes. Regardless, they shared a mutual affinity for one another. As a matter of fact, per some of his comments, David Crosby held Dylan in the highest regard in terms of his creativity and wittiness. Though among this admiration, Crosby also just thought Dylan was one odd dude.
Concerning Dylan’s personality, Crosby told Stereogum, “He’s friendly, but he’s not out front. He doesn’t let you in. You’ll say, ‘Bob, where do you live?’ And he’ll say, ‘Well, you’re looking at a man that has no home.’ He’d be telling you about life instead of telling you he lived in Malibu. He’s not an easy guy. To this day, he’s not an easy guy. He doesn’t welcome you in with open arms and show you who Bob is.”
It seems David Crosby’s opinion on Dylan remained the same throughout his life, as he also told the LA Times that Bob Dylan is “crazy as a f—ing fruit fly.” Justifying his comment, he also stated, “You look at an artist and you have to look at their art. Their art speaks for them better than they do. That’s where you see who they are.”
Again, talent and weirdness are seemingly synonymous with each other. And according to David Crosby, that was the case for the greatest songwriter of all time, Bob Dylan.
