As far as modern country music goes, it doesn’t get much better than Chris Stapleton or Miranda Lambert. Their songwriting is unmatched, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that both are vocal powerhouses. We’ve already seen what magic they can make together when they teamed up for “What Am I Gonna Do,” off Stapleton’s ACM Award-winning Higher. Now, the highly decorated duo have struck gold a second time with their new duet “A Song to Sing.”

This marks the fourth and fifth No. 1 hits on this chart for Lambert and Stapleton, respectively. Lambert, 41, last reached the summit in March 2021 with her Elle King collaboration, “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home.)” Stapleton, 47, did the same two years later with 2023’s “White Horse.”
The “Kerosene” songstress recently joined Stapleton at Los Angeles’ Sofi Stadium for the song’s live debut.
Miranda Lambert Says She and Chris Stapleton Channeled This Country Music Duo
Country music has a long, storied history of power duos: Johnny and June Cash. Waylon Jennings and Loretta Lynn. Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
Now, Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton are angling for this era’s crown. However, they didn’t get here without paying homage to those who came before them.
Lambert detailed the songwriting process during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Highway. The nine-time Female Vocalist of the Year told host Cody Alan that co-writer Jesse Frasure randomly reached out to Stapleton during a session.
By stroke of good fortune, the “Tennessee Whiskey” crooner was available. “We wrote two songs that day, but it’s been around for like a couple of years,” Lambert revealed. “It just wasn’t time. I guess we couldn’t really figure out what project it fit on or where it should go.”
When the time came last year, Lambert and Stapleton met in Savannah, Georgia, to record “A Song to Sing” with producer Dave Cobb.
“I mean, I got to just hang in Savannah for a couple days with the Stapletons and drink some wine and cut a record that to channel our inner Kenny and Dolly, you know what I mean?” Lambert said of the process.
