The 1960s really were one of the greatest eras for music. Most think of the year 1967, also known as the Summer of Love, as the most significant musical year of the entire decade. However, there are so many nostalgic songs that came out in 1965. I think that year is quite underrated. And if you were a kid in 1965, the following nostalgic songs might just include one or two of your childhood favorites. Let’s take a look!

“Over And Over” by The Dave Clark Five
This hit from 1965 was actually a cover of a song written by Robert James Byrd, recorded under the name Bobby Day. That original version of the song was released back in 1958 and did fairly well on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, The Dave Clark Five’s beat version really did numbers on the chart. In fact, “Over And Over” was the group’s only No. 1 hit. And I can certainly see why. It’s such a high-energy, danceable song.
“I Hear A Symphony” by The Supremes
Remember this Supremes hit from 1965? One of the most nostalgic songs of 1965, “I Hear A Symphony” by The Supremes was all over pop and R&B radio at the time of its release. The tune marked The Supremes’ sixth No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 chart in the US, and it also did fairly well in the UK. Diana Ross’ vocals are absolutely gorgeous in this song, as one would expect. It’s a classic.
“I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher
The year 1965 was really the golden era for folk rock and pop music. And this might be the most nostalgic song of all nostalgic songs to come out of the year 1965. “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher became the famous duo’s signature song in no time. And upon its release, “I Got You Babe” was a No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 chart.
It’s wild to think that this song was Sonny & Cher’s first single from their first album. They really kicked off their careers with a bang, though that partnership wouldn’t end so glamorously. Regardless, this gorgeous, nostalgic tune has been covered multiple times through the years by the likes of Etta James, UB40, and others.
