3 Funny Classic Rock Songs From the 1980s That Will Always Make Us Laugh

You know, humor isn’t just for stand-up comics. They aren’t the only ones who can get up on stage and induce a laugh. Just because they can paint a word picture or tell a setup and punch line doesn’t make them the sole proprietors of jokes.

Musicians can do it, too! And that’s just what we wanted to explore here below. We wanted to highlight three rock stars from the past who could make their audiences chuckle. Indeed, these are three funny classic rock songs from the 1980s that make us laugh.

“Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco from ‘Falco 3’ (1985)

A bilingual pop song about Amadeus Mozart? Sign us up! How does a track like this even come to be? Who thinks about writing a synth-driven German rap (?) track about a classical music composer in debt? Well, whatever the sonic inspiration, both the track and music video, from their costumes to their performances, leave us feeling goofy. What an experience, what a song!

“Whip It” by Devo from ‘Freedom Of Choice’ (1980)

While some bands may try to be too serious, the Akron, Ohio-born band Devo wanted nothing to do with that life. Devo did everything they could to flout their boring, banal humanness in order to transcend the everyday existence and become something else. As a result, they put a lot of smiles on a lot of people’s faces. Devo wasn’t concerned with seriousness. In fact, that was the only thing they were serious about!

“Love Shack” by The B-52’s from ‘Cosmic Thing’ (1989)

Some funny songs or bands aren’t in on the joke. Sometimes the songwriters and performers of a given track just don’t know how funny they are being. But there was nothing unintentional about The B-52’s or their sense of style and humor. No, they wanted their fans in on the joy with them, from their fashion to their levity to their colorful music videos. They brought the good energy because they knew their fans needed it. As a result, we’re still guffawing along with “Love Shack” to this day!
