Alison Krauss & Union Station Announce Their Long-Awaited New Album ‘Arcadia’ with Stunning Lead Single “Looks Like the End of the Road”

Today (January 29), Alison Krauss & Union Station proved that good things come to those to wait. It has been 14 years since the group released their hit 2011 album Paper Airplane. Today, they announce Arcadia set to release later this year with the lead single and album opener “Looks Like the End of the Road.” This isn’t just the group’s first album in more than a decade. It’s also their first record with new guitarist/mandolinist/co-lead vocalist Russell Moore.

After releasing their last album Krauss and the other members of Union Station—Jerry Douglas, Ron Block, Barry Bales, and Barry Bales—took time to build their solo careers. Collectively, the group has more than 70 Grammy awards under their belts. They added more power to the group with Moore, who is the International Bluegrass Music Association’s most-awarded male vocalist.

While the members of Union Station were working on their solo careers, they were also on the hunt for music that would bring them back together. According to Krauss, “Looks Like the End of the Road” was that song. “Usually, I find something that’s a first song, and then things fall into place. That song was ‘Looks Like the End of the Road,’” she shared in a statement. “Jeremy Lister wrote it and it just felt so alive—and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it,” she added.

Alison Krauss & Union Station Return with Arcadia

Arcadia is a collection of ten songs that “transcend time, reveal beautiful and tragic truths, and reaffirm why the group remains one of the most influential, widely celebrated acts of the past four decades,” according to press materials.

“The stories of the past are told in this music,” Alison Krauss said of the new Union Station album. “It’s that whole idea of ‘in the good old days when times were bad.’ There’s so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive,” she added. “Someone asked me, ‘How do you sing these tragic tunes?’ I have to. It’s a calling. I feel privileged to be a messenger of somebody else’s story. And I want to hear what happened.”
