Following his last show on February 22 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, Billy Joel announced that he would be taking a four-month break due to a “medical condition” that required surgery and physical therapy. As a result of this diagnosis, Billy Joel took to Instagram to announce the cancellation of his upcoming tour. Before the diagnosis, Joel planned to perform at stadiums across the country with special guests Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, and Sting.

Furthermore, this diagnosis comes after Joel’s on-stage fall at the February 22 show in Connecticut. Normal pressure hydrocephalus, or simply NPH, often receives an Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diagnosis, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. That being so, health officials often misdiagnose the disorder. Regardless, it is good to hear that Billy Joel is doing all the right things.

Billy Joel’s Official Statement

On Instagram, Joel’s team wrote that the condition “has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.” “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”

“Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage,” the post concluded.

Joel also added, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.” Per the post, Joel’s team canceled 17 of his tour dates. Including the ones with special guests Sting, Stevie Nicks, and Rod Stewart. Nonetheless, the music community is wishing Billy Joel all the best in light of this news. Let’s all hope for a speedy and seamless recovery for Billy Joel. Because as much as we will miss him on stage, he will surely miss the stage just as much.
