Album Premiere: Colton Kayser, Place to Settle

Colton Kayser
An up-and-comer in the re-emerging Asbury Park scene in his home state of New Jersey, folk-pop singer-songwriter Colton Kayser turned the tribulations and terrifying unknowns of post-grad life into a full-bodied 10 song LP, Place to Settle, his second full-length album to date.

“Place to Settle was written at a time when I had a lot of variables in my life,” says Kayser. “This record really helped me process the situations I was experiencing. It opened the door for me to make some life decisions. In a short time span, I had gotten out of school, had my childhood home flooded by Hurricane Sandy, endured my first real break up, and gotten my first ‘real job.’ Hints of all of these events can be found in the songs.

“What I learned from the entire experience is that you should really trust your gut, and do what feels right for you. I quit the job, took the money I made from it, and started making this record. I also realized that I’m doing exactly what I should be doing. Music has always been my main focus, but it took some time in “the real world” to learn that I’d rather work hard at something I love instead of doing something I hate for a paycheck. This lesson has really changed my work ethic for the better, and I’m excited for the future.”
