Kris Kristofferson is one of the most influential figures in American music. His legacy will likely last for decades, if not centuries. And part of what makes him so memorable is his time spent as a Hollywood actor. His music is where it’s at, obviously. But his films left a similarly large mark on culture as a whole.

Let’s take a look at how Kris Kristofferson’s time in Hollywood earned him the recognition he deserved outside of music.

Kris Kristofferson Was a Songwriting Genius

Kris Kristofferson wasn’t like other country singers. He was an important figure in the outlaw country music movement, with a wide range of gorgeous and long-lived tunes like “Me And Bobby McGee” and “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down”.

His career as a musician lasted over six decades, and so much of his work is still revered by fans and contemporaries today. And while his voice is something to behold, his greatest talent was songwriting. He penned many a tune for other artists, as well as himself.

You’d think he would stick to where his talent shone. However, Kristofferson opted to try out a career in Hollywood. And his music career wasn’t affected negatively in the slightest.

Did Kris Kristofferson’s Time in Hollywood Affect His Music?

Making genre-changing country music wasn’t enough for Kristofferson. His career in film was quite incredible, especially for someone who had an established career as a musician. His roles in films like The Last Movie, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid, and A Star Is Born weren’t mere cameos. He wowed audiences with his genuine and passionate on-screen portrayals. For that latter film, he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor.

So, did Kris Kristofferson’s time in Hollywood affect his music career? The answer is simple: Not at all.

To start, it’s worth noting that he was a master at balancing both careers simultaneously. Few multi-threats have managed to do so as gloriously as he did.

His career as an actor didn’t take away from his ability to pen and produce gorgeous music. He would go on to earn a place in multiple halls of fame, as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

With all the accolades he earned as both a musician and an actor, Kristofferson always stayed humble. He would often downplay his talent as a singer and an actor. However, he would remained focused on songwriting as his true artform. Rest in peace, king.
