K-Pop Singer Found Dead at South Korea Home

Throughout his childhood, Choi Whee-sung, who went by Wheesung, shared a love for dancing and music. As the singer got older, that love turned into a career with him becoming a record producer, actor, and part of the growing K-pop scene. During the height of his stardom, Wheesung released albums like For the Moment, It’s Real, and Vocolate. He also appeared in the musical All Shook Up, portraying Elvis Presley. While continuing to expand his career in the music industry, sadly, Wheesung recently passed away at 43 years old.

With authorities finding the body of Wheensung at his home in Seoul, South Korea on Monday, city officials are staying silent as to what led to his death. Police did reveal that the body was left for a great deal of time before being discovered. Authorities believed there was no sign of foul play.

Fans Remember The Legacy of Wheesung

As the news of Weesung’s passing spread over the internet, the singer’s agency, Tajoy Entertainment, released a statement about the “sorrow” they felt about the news. Fans also flooded social media with heartfelt messages that read, “Rest in peace, Wheesung. Thank you for being one of Jonghyun’s biggest inspirations, collaborators and most importantly, friend. We will miss you.” Another person added, “Rest in peace, Wheesung. Thank you for being the silent cheerleader for a lot of our young kpop dreamers, including Mamamoo.”

The tributes didn’t stop there as one fan showcased just how big of an impact he had in K-pop. “Thank you for making amazing songs and singing it together with us since MAMAMOO’s pre-debut when all of us didn’t know anything. Also, I will never forget your amazing songs. May you rest in peace.”

Although a rising star in music, his career hit a rough patch back in 2021 when he was caught with propofol. The same drug that caused the death of Michael Jackson, Wheesung ended up facing jail time and a suspension. Continuing to perform, Wheesung was expected to take the stage with KCM in Daegu this weekend.

With Wheesung passing away, his fans and contributions highlighted his lasting impact on K-pop and music.
