Lamar, who headlined the Halftime Show, has reentered the Billboard 200 chart with his album GNX for the second nonconsecutive week. SZA has also reentered the chart with her album SOS. With Lamar at no. 1 and SZA at no. 2 respectively, this marks the very first time two performers from a specific year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show have made it to no. 1 and no. 2 on the Billboard 200 after the Super Bowl has wrapped up.
It wasn’t just the Halftime Show that gave these powerhouse artists their boost on the Billboard 200. GNX was recently released on physical formats on February 7, which sparked some of Lamar’s biggest sales since 2017. SOS, similarly, was reissued on February 9 with several new bonus tracks.
“THANK YOU [Kendrick Lamar] for consistently putting the world on your back,” SZA recently said following her history-making performance at the Super Bowl with Lamar. “At all times. Thank you for lifting me up, thank you for encouraging me and being so willing to bend to whatever I may need. Thank you to your incredible team and mine! You’re a prophet.”
Kendrick Lamar and SZA Topping the Billboard 200 is a Pretty Big Deal
Before Lamar delivered an incredible performance at the Halftime Show, the last Super Bowl performer to hit no. 1 on the Billboard 200 immediately after their performance was Justin Timberlake back in 2018. Back then, Timberlake’s Man Of The Woods record debuted at the top of the chart on February 17, 2018.
During Lamar’s Halftime show performance, SZA joined the performance for a handful of songs. The two performed “Luther” from GNX and “All The Stars” from the 2018 Black Panther soundtrack.
Lamar and SZA aren’t done yet. The two icons will be kicking off a co-headlining stadium tour this year, dubbed The Grand National Tour. The trek is slated to begin on April 19 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The tour will take the two performers throughout the US and Canada until July, when the tour will continue in Europe. The Grand National Tour is set to wrap up on August 9 in Stockholm, Sweden.
