With over five decades worth of experience in the music industry, Joe Cocker produced hits like “Feelin’ Alright” and “Unchain My Heart.” While releasing over 20 studio albums throughout his career, Cocker will always be remembered for the song “You Are So Beautiful.” While landing on Rolling Stone’s 100 greatest singers list, Cocker never gained entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Passing away from lung cancer in 2014, the singer recently received some support from none other than Paul McCartney, who urged the Rock Hall to induct the English singer.

On February 25th, McCartney wrote a letter to the Rock Hall about the possibility of inducting Cocker. The singer stood alongside artists like Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, the White Stripes, Outkast, and Oasis. With the ceremony expected to air this fall, McCartney already promoted Cocker.
Releasing parts of his letter, McCartney wrote about the legacy of Cocker, “Joe was a great man and a fine singer whose unique style made for some fantastic performances. He sang one of our songs With a Little Help from My Friends, a version produced by Denny Cordell which was very imaginative.”
Not The First Time Paul McCartney Supported Rock Hall Nominee
McCartney added that Cocker never showed interest in being a member of the Rock Hall but still deserved a spot. “And whilst he may not have ever lobbied to be in the Hall of Fame, I know he would be extremely happy and grateful to find himself where he deserves to be amongst such illustrious company.”
The publicist who released the letter, Bob Merlis, noted how McCartney quickly advocated for Cocker when he learned about his nomination. “Just this morning the letter you see below showed up and it’s quite apparent that he’s more than OK with our sharing it. We urge you to do the same.”
Although a fan of Cocker, this isn’t the first time McCartney threw his support behind a nominee. Just last year, the singer pushed for the Rock Hall to induct Foreigner. And that was exactly what happened as the band found itself inducted beside other greats like Dionne Warwick and Cher.
