American Aquarium almost called it quits four years ago, but, instead of giving up, the Raleigh-based band took the success of 2012’s Jason Isbell-produced Burn.Flicker.Die. as an opportunity to reinvent themselves.

Following several hundred tour dates, the band returned to the studio in June 2014 to record a followup. On Wolves, released a year ago, American Aquarium abandoned the electric twang of previous records and instead embraced an alternative rock sound that’s prevalent on their new track, “Wolves (Revisited).” Inspired by the latest season of The Walking Dead, “Wolves (Revisited)” is a dismal, murky take on the previously recorded tune.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the show for a while now,” said frontman BJ Barham. “When they introduced the ‘wolves’ arc last year it was right after our record Wolves had been released. After watching those episodes I couldn’t help but hear this line in the title track in a completely different light. I shared the concept of revisiting the song with the boys, and everything just seemed to fall in place. Since then, the song has taken on an entirely new meaning to us.”

American Aquarium is now on the road in support of the album.
