The Artist: Denver “garage-soul” outfit Ark Life
The Song: “Proud of Me Out There, Mama” from the album The Dream of You and Me, out August 19.
Fun Fact: Both guitarist Jesse Elliot and Bassist Anna Morsett were members of These United States.
Songwriter Says: “Your mother, your friend, your lover, your muse – whoever this song turns out to be about, the key to me lies in the second line. They’re gonna be proud of you no matter your own trashed or triumphant reality, so you might as well wander the way you want. I tried this one a few different ways with different collaborators – The Devil Whale, Adam Arcuragi, a hodgepodge gang of Brooklynites – but it finally became an actual song with the best group of friends I’ve met in a very long time, these fellow travelers of Ark Life.”
