The Artist: electronic folk artist Eric Lindley, a.k.a. Careful
The Song: “The World Doesn’t End, Part 1” from the upcoming album The World Doesn’t End (out this spring.)
Fun Fact: Lindley sings the male and female leads on this concept album about a fizzling relationship, using digital manipulation to alter his voice.
Fun Fact #2: The album takes its name form Charles Simic’s 1989 Pulitzer prize-winning poetry collection.
Songwriter Says: “This was a fun song to make, in that it ended up having a more vivid character and setting to me than I expected, in a way I couldn’t intend or control. I know other listeners will have a different experience, but when I listen I’m surprised how fooled I am by this ethereal, female voice in direct conversation with my own, all in this distorted, digital was — it still feels like I’m eavesdropping on someone else’s life by way of a found cassette.”
