The Artist: Brooklyn-via-New Orleans singer/songwriter Erin Durant

The Song: “I Know A Place,” from the album Take Your Money and Run, recorded with Andrija Tokic at The Bomb Shelter Studio in Nashville, TN

Fun Fact: The name of the record comes from “Take The Money And Run,” the classic Steve Miller Band song, which was usually included on compilation tapes I bought at gas stations on family road trips somewhere between Louisiana and the Florida panhandle. I never thought much more about that song or the expression until a version of it popped up in one of the first songs I wrote, “Take Your Money and Run.” It stayed with me throughout these songs, leading me to explore a sense of place and identity.

Songwriter Says: This song was recorded at the last minute when we were almost finished with everything. It ended up being one of my favorites. It was something I was still working on and then we did one take and it felt finished. It’s really short and like a fragment or a conjunction or something, but it reassures me that sometimes things just come and it’s hard to explain.
