The Artist:
Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun, a collective of like-minded Canadians.
The Album: Their self-titled debut, out April 15 on Arts & Crafts.
Fun Fact: Downie and The Sadies have been working on the record since 2006 and wrote and produced every track themselves.
Songwriter Says: Gord Downie says, “Just before our first-ever show, a delightfully miscast middle-of-the-day on a country festival, we were waiting in the wings shaking, thinking ‘we might actually get the hook here.’ I yelled to everyone over the din, ‘We’re nervous because it means something!’ Expectation is easy. A challenge is what all artists crave.”

Dallas Good (guitar, keyboards) has another story about the band’s early days. “When Sadie and Gord performed together for CBC’s FUSE a while back, we chose to cover the songs ‘Search and Destroy’ by The Stooges and ‘I Have Always Been Here Before’ by Roky Erickson, among others. This record came about through friendship, the unity of mutual taste and disdain, and a desire to pursue a sound of our own.”
