Iris and Angie Both Make It Through

After Iris’ powerful performance and Angie’s emotional time on stage, the coaches were in awe. John and Adam both said they’d lean towards Iris if the choice was up to them, and Kelsea agreed, selecting Iris as the winner.

However, the road isn’t over for Angie, as Michael decided to steal Angie at the last moment.

“I wanted her to be able to hug her coach, before she came to win the show with her new coach,” Michael said as the reason for his delayed reaction.

Angie Rey Brings Kelsea to Tears

Kelsea paired up two of her female vocalists together for her next Knockout. She advised Iris Herrera to not be scared of her emotions while performing Ray LaMontagne’s “Jolene.” Kelsea took her own advice next, as she broke down in tears watching Angie Rey perform Cody Johnson’s “Dirt Cheap.”

“I got emotional because my dog is super sick,” Kelsea told the cameras. “That is the thing about country music, it does talk about real life and the things that are hard to talk about.”

Team Adam in the Spotlight

Team Adam’s Trevon Dawson selected Brooks and Dunn’s “Red Dirt Road” for the Knockout Round, a nod to his country upbringing. His competitor, Ethan Eckenroad, picked Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” in order to show off his range. Each of the guys brought their all for their performance, and they both earned standing ovations from their coach for their efforts. Adam praised Ethan for his stage presence and Trevon for how he “kicked ass,” but ultimately selected the former singer as the winner.

Barry Beats Simone

Simone delivered a chills-inducing performance of “She Used to Be Mine,” before Barry wowed with his take on one of Michael’s biggest hits. After compliments from all of the coaches, Michael chose Barry as the winner of the Knockout, citing his “potential.” However, he gave Simone his number and promised to continue to help her on her post-show journey.

Michael Pairs Up His Save and Steal

Michael paired up the artist he saved during the Battle Round, Barry Jean Fontenot, and the artist he stole during the same round, Simone Marijic. During rehearsals, Simone wowed with a performance of Sara Bareilles’ “She Used to Be Mine,” a nod to seeing Waitress on Broadway with her dad. After encouraging Simone to let go of the nerves, Michael was delighted to learn Barry would be singing his song, “Haven’t Met You Yet,” for the Knockout.

Kelsea Didn't Leave Dan Empty Handed

Though Dan lost his Knockout Round face-off against Tinika, Kelsea made no secret of her love for the singer. Before he left the stage, Kelsea wrote down her phone number and gave it to Dan along with a big hug.

Kelsea Makes Her Choice

Tinika earned a standing ovation after her powerful performance, and the coaches were similarly moved after Dan’s time on stage. “That was so much fun, both of you,” Michael complimented after the performances. John praised Tinika for “singing your butt off,” and Adam praised Dan for being “engaging” and “special.” Kelsea decided to select Tinika as the winner of the Knockout thanks to her “flawless” performance.

Kelsea's First-Ever Knockout

Team Kelsea’s Dan Kiernan selected the power ballad “Impossible” by Shontelle to demonstrate a new side of himself and his voice. The Emotions’ “Best of My Love” was Tinika Wyatt’s song choice, a nod to the enduring love she felt early in her childhood. Kelsea gave the former singer tips on how to make his performance more dynamic, while Kelsea encouraged the latter singer to choose her moments wisely. Kelsea said her choice would come down to who can “sing from their” during their time on stage.

Best Friends Go Head-to-Head

“We’re best friends here!” Lucia Flores-Wiseman told Adam upon walking into rehearsals with her competitor, Grace-Miller Moody. The girls had to put their friendship aside to compete, though, and they did just that. Grace-Miller selected “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac for her performance, which she said “represents the kind of music I’d like to make.” Meanwhile, Lucia selected Benson Boone’s “Slow It Down,” because it contains “so many different components of my voice.” Adam was impressed during each rehearsal, and advised the women not to stress about technicalities but to instead focus on how they feel when they’re performing.

Both Adam and Michael pushed their buttons to steal Kolby. The former coach praised Kolby for “getting better and better,” while Michael said he wants to get to know the singer so that he could advocate for him. Kolby decided to join Team Adam, leaving Michael disappointed, but with his one-and-only steal in tact.

John's Tough Choice

“Damn,” Adam declared after watching BD and Kolby’s Knockout. The Maroon 5 frontman didn’t reveal who he’d pick if it was his choice, while Kelsea said she’d lean towards and Michael said the exact opposite. It was ultimately up to John, though, and he selected BD as the winner of the Knockout.

The First Knockout of the Season

Team Legend was up first. BD.ii chose Brian McKnight’s “Back at One” in an effort to get outside his “comfort zone” in his battle with Kolby Cordell. John was impressed with rehearsals, though he instructed BD to work on his connection with the crowd during his performance. Meanwhile, Kolby selected Stevie Wonder’s “Lately” to show a different side of his capabilities, which John dubbed “a great choice” for him.

The Knockouts Begin

With the Battle Round complete, The Voice is moving on to the Knockouts. During this portion of the competition two contestants from each team—led by coaches Kelsea Ballerini, Adam Levine, John Legend, and Michael Bublé—will compete head-to-head by individually singing a song of their own choosing. Kelsea feels “nervous” about the new round, while Michael predicted that “jaws will drop” during the segments. With no saves and only one chance to steal during this round, it’s about to get really real.
