What were you doing when you were 17? Chemistry tests? Soccer games? Scott James — the teenaged singer/songwriter whose new EP, Destinesia, brings to mind the sweeping, bare-boned folk of Jeff Buckley — has got you beat.

After graduating high school two years early to focus on music, James began working on his new EP with Grammy-winning producer Joe DiBlasi. This week, he’s pushing the music video for “My Road,” one of the record’s best tracks. The clip alternates between shots of a cold, empty desert and a similarly depressing house, with the two worlds colliding during the final seconds.

“It’s about realizing that you’re trapped in a routine and are unaware that you’ve been just going through the motions each day,” James tell us. “When you finally realize what is happening, you decide that you are going to break free.”
