Video Premiere: Holy Folk, “We Are Two”

Holy Folk is not quite as intensely folky as their band name might have you believe. The acoustic guitars and meditative harmonies are certainly present, but the LA collaboration – featuring Keith Waggoner, Josh Caldwell, Ryan George and Jonathan Hylander (Les Blanks, Amateurs, The Voyeurs, Honey Loving Cells) – has its fair share of rock and pop tendencies too. Having just released their debut Motioning in June, we’re excited to premiere their most recent video for the track “We Are Two.”

The video was directed by Caldwell and drew from some unusual inspiration, detailing a common relationship arc with at least one rather unorthodox character. Specifically, a lamp. Says Caldwell, “I first learned about Object Sexuals a few years back from the documentary Married to the Eiffel Tower. I’ve been wanting to do something with the concept for awhile. The song “We Are Two” explores the initial stages of falling in love. I wanted to tell the story of love’s rise and fall from the perspective of an object sexual, put a twist on a well traveled path. Jeremy Sage, who plays pedal steel guitar in Holy Folk, seemed like the perfect candidate for the role. He was able to have fun with it, while simultaneously playing it straight.”
