On her new single, Jesse Lafser is ready to call it quits. She’s already spent too much time waiting for a fair-weather lover to come around, and it’s time to cut ties and move on. “With the rising sun, this time I’ll be done with you,” she promises over a backdrop of acoustic guitars, fiddle and pedal steel.

“Tonight” is a love song, though. Once the chorus hits, Lafser’s resolve breaks just a bit, allowing her to spend a few more hours waiting by the phone. Hopefully, her old flame will ring her up before daybreak.
Lafser recorded “Tonight” in Nashville, with Mike Odmark handling production and a group of top-notch Americana musicians — including pedal steel guitarist Spencer Cullum, violinist Kristen Weber and fellow solo artist Andrew Combs — backing her up. A few of those players make an appearance in the song’s music video, too. Filmed by Strange Bird Media, it’s an old-school, straightforward clip that focuses on the interplay between Lafser and her band.
