Video Premiere: The Lonely Wild, “Everything You Need”

The Sun as it Comes, The Lonely Wild’s 2013 debut, sounds like the soundtrack to a cross-country road trip. There’s Bible belt twang, southwestern brass and Springsteen-worthy rock & roll, all held together by enough epic hooks to cover the distance between Joshua Tree and the Asbury Park boardwalk. From the guitars to the triple-stacked harmonies, it’s big-hearted music.

Speaking of hearts, a wounded one plays a big role in the band’s new music video for “Everything You Need.” Animated by the same creative team that tackled “Midnight on the Interstate” for Trampled by Turtles, the clip spins a tale of two lovers who are willing to battle anything — even the Grim Reaper himself — to save their bond.

“Growing up watching Monty Python and the early days of MTV when Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer” was in heavy rotation, I think we all have been big fans of stop-motion animation for a long time,” the band told us. “So when we saw the fantastic work Kurt Paulsen and his Media Arts students at Bethany Lutheran College did for a Trampled by Turtles video, we thought they would be ideal candidates to bring visual life to our song. And we were right! They did an amazing job of capturing the theme and tribal spirit of the song with a unique combination of live-action and stop-motion animation.”

There’s more road trip music in store. This summer, The Lonely Wild will record a follow-up to The Sun as it Comes with a little help from their fans, who can support the sessions by donating to the band’s PledgeMusic campaign.
