The Artist: Mando Saenz, an Americana songwriter who’s been covered by Eli Young Band, Lee Ann Womack, Kim Richey, and Stoney LaRue.
The Video: “Pocket Change,” from his latest album Studebaker. The song was co-written with Shelly Colvin, and appears on her last album as well.
Director’s Notes: “As a filmmaker who gets to create music visuals, you dream to be approached by an artist like Mando,” says the video’s director Steve Condon. “Great storytelling songs inspire great storytelling videos. ‘Pocket Change’ was a tune I heard and instantly what came to mind was running from broken love. Insert Hard Days Night meets Richard Linklater characters meets Wes Anderson fashion throw in a psycho ex-lover and Mando Saenz running for his life in boots . . . and Boom; you get one of the coolest videos to come out of East Nashville.”
