Video Premiere: XO, “Coast”

XO, the indie rock brother band fronted by Say Anything guitarists Jake and Jeff Turner, appreciate good visuals. When they play live, the Turner twins like to project videos, images and lights behind them, a tradition that dates back to the psychedelic ’60s.

Speaking of visuals, check out the band’s lyric video for “Coast,” a ridiculously catchy track off their upcoming debut album, Heart (out 2/4 on Rory Records.)

Despite it’s relatively sunny sound, “Coast” “is about escaping a life you loathe,” Jeff Turner tells American Songwriter. “I wanted to try a different structure — intro, a bunch of verses and an outro,” he says. “The song has several strumming patterns for the guitar that are played at once to create an unusual rhythm for the G chord. The visual uses layers to represent the instruments while telling the story of the song.”

Got it? Good. Put down that lava lamp, and stare at this instead.
