Watch Riley Green Bring Out “One of the Countriest Dudes I Know” To Help Cover a Merle Haggard Classic in Oklahoma

While spending a little over a decade in country music, Riley Green used that time to release three studio albums. Just last year, he released his latest album with Don’t Mind If I Do. He also landed on the charts thanks to songs like “There Was This Girl” and “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” Not stopping there, he even collaborated with Luke Combs on “Different ‘Round Here.” Having a massive year in country music, Green decided to end the year on stage. And wanting to share the spotlight and moment, Green welcomed none other than Jake Worthington to the stage for a special performance.

Walking out to a sea of screaming fans in Durant, Oklahoma, Green took a moment to soak in the last twelve months. Having toured with Ella Langley thanks to their hit song “You Look Like You Love Me”, fans hoped to see more of the duo in the future. But when it came to Worthington, Green looked to take fans on a trip back to the 1990s.

Sharing a video of their performance, Green introduced Worthington to the crowd, stating, “I’m gonna get a buddy of mine up here. He’s one of my favorite up-and-coming country artists… One of the countriest dudes I know. He’s from right down the road here in Oklahoma, Jake Worthington everybody! Let’s hear it for Jake Worthington.”

Riley Green Discusses His Love For “The Way I Am”

Wanting to test Worthington on his knowledge of country music, Green offered the singer a chance to cover the classic hit “Time Marches On.” And even though Green hoped to stump the singer, Worthington took over the song easily.

Green wasn’t finished performing with Worthington after just one song. With the crowd praising the performance, the two moved into another classic country song with Merle Haggard’s “The Way I Am.”

Appearing on the God’s Country Podcast, Green discussed the importance of the song and his connection with country music. “That song feels very relevant to me where I am at in my life. ‘Wish I enjoyed what makes my living,’ obviously I love playing country music and traveling on the road. But there are moments when I find myself dreading something I’ve got to go do. I’ve got to take a step back and go, ‘This is awesome.’”
