Sturgill Simpson Makes ‘SNL’ Debut with Fiery Performances

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson made his Saturday Night Live debut on the January 14 episodethe show’s kick-off for the 2017 season. Simpson performed “Keep It Between the Lines” and “Call to Arms,” two songs from his newest album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, released in March 2016.

Performing at SNL’s 2017 season debut is only the tip of the iceberg that is Simpson’s recent success. His newest release has been nominated for “Album of the Year” and “Best Country Album” at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. He also recently wrapped up an extensive sold-out national tour in support of the album.

In recent years, Simpson has gained public notoriety, securing his United States television debut in 2014 performing on The Late Show with David Letterman. Since then, his musical career has skyrocketed, as he’s performed on various television shows, produced new work and performed with legends like Willie Nelson.
