Chastity Brown’s forthcoming Silhouette of Sirens is one of the most anticipated roots albums of the first half of 2017. It’s a collection that showcases Brown’s dexterous musicianship, thoughtful songwriting and careful attention to detail, all of which have earned her praise from outlets like NPR and CMT on past releases.

Those qualities are on full display on “Drive Slow,” a sweeping new track from Silhouette of Sirens that considers what it means to slow down and appreciate the moment.

“When I first began writing ‘Drive Slow’ with my writing partner Robert Mulrennan, the first lines I wrote were for the bridge, the loudest part of the tune,” Brown explains. “It took me a couple weeks to realize that I had written the end and had to trace my way back to the beginning. Up until that point I had never written a track like that. It’s a song about taking one’s time and trying not to miss anything along the way.”

Silhouette of Sirens is out May 19. Listen to “Drive Slow” below.
