3 Chart Successes Ed Sheeran Wrote for Other Artists

The music industry has seen its fair share of ghostwriters. Bob Dylan, John Prine, Frank Ocean, Bernie Taupin, and one other name to add to that list is Ed Sheeran. Sheeran is obviously an incredibly successful solo artist, as he has 14 no. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and has won four Grammys.

Thanks to having such a knack for the craft, Sheeran has been a sought-after songwriter for years. When he’s accepted the offers, he’s not only written songs, but he’s written chart successes, and he has rarely expected nor received any credit for these hits. So, in hopes of getting Sheeran the credit he deserves, here are three successful singles written by Ed Sheeran!

“Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber

Released in 2015, “Love Yourself” remains one of Justin Bieber’s most popular hit songs. Upon its release, Justin Bieber’s song debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Bieber’s third consecutive top 10 hit. Furthermore, it also scored Bieber his ninth top 10 song in a row, and it’s partially thanks to Ed Sheeran.

Written by Sheeran, Bieber, and producer Benny Blanco, the song finally peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Also, with Sheeran and Blanco’s help, Bieber received two Grammy nominations for the single.

“Little Things” by One Direction

During their career together, Ed Sheeran wrote four hit songs for One Direction. Though, out of the four, the most successful is unarguably the single “Little Things”. Released in 2012, the song became an instant chart success and peaked at no. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Outside of the US, Sheeran helped One Direction peak at no. 1 in 12 different countries. In addition to their chart success, the single sold 502,000 copies in the US by January 7. It also became a certified platinum single by the RIAA on May 9, 2013.

“Make Me Better” by James Blunt

James Blunt is a heavy-hitting songwriter on his own. So, when Ed Sheeran was added to the mix, their 2017 single “Make Me Better” was bound for greatness. Sheeran was not the sole writer on the single, but by helping Blunt, “Make Me Better” became a chart success in both the US and overseas.

Following its 2017 release, the single debuted at no. 93 on the UK Singles chart and helped the album peak at no. 6  on the UK charts. Even though the numbers don’t match the previous two songs written by Sheeran, it is still technically a chart hit written by none other than Ed Sheeran.
