3 of the Best Songs Written by Songwriter of the Year, Amy Allen
1. “Espresso”
Sabrina Carpenter, Amy Allen, Steph Jones, and Julian Bunetta
We have to start this list with the song of summer 2024, “Espresso.” Though it didn’t take home a Grammy in the big four categories, this track made massive waves for Sabrina Carpenter. Her standing in the pop community grew tenfold–seemingly overnight–thanks to this summertime anthem.
Now he’s thinkin’ ’bout me every night, oh
Is it that sweet? I guess so
Say you can’t sleep, baby, I know
That’s that me espresso
Move it up, down, left, right, oh
Switch it up like Nintendo
Say you can’t sleep, baby, I know
That’s that me espresso

2. “Adore You” (Harry Styles)
Harry Styles, Amy Allen, Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson
Harry Styles has many hits to his name, but we’re partial to “Adore You.” Coincidentally, this track was also penned by Allen alongside a few other frequent Styles collaborators. This song was a reinvention of sorts for Styles, with its dark undertones and insatiably catchy chorus.
Walk in your rainbow paradise
Strawberry lipstick state of mind
I get so lost inside your eyes
Would you believe it?
You don’t have to say you love me
You don’t have to say nothing
You don’t have to say you’re mine
3. “pretty isn’t pretty” (Olivia Rodrigo)
Olivia Rodrigo, Dan Nigro and Amy Allen
Olivia Rodrigo’s “pretty isn’t pretty” is not only a powerful track, but also a much-needed message. It’s one thing to make a pop song that is catchy enough for the masses to latch on to. It’s entirely another to deliver a much-needed truth in the midst of it all.
When pretty isn’t pretty enough, what do you do?
And everybody’s keeping it up, so you think it’s you
I could change up my body and change up my face
I could try every lipstick in every shade
But I’d always feel the same
‘Cause pretty isn’t pretty enough anyway
